Re: The Reason Why There Is No Such Thing As A Vegan

Yet another reason why I don't like labeling myself as a vegan. You can call me whatever you like, it really doesn't matter. I was a "vegan" before I knew of that word. Arguing over the subject is a waste of time.

Haha, so now you get to change the question, typical. This is an exercise in futility, your concept of 'good' could be completely different to mine so there is very little point in me even trying. Re: killing an insect same as killing a bird or animal?

I view it as more of a mindset. Part of the reason for me to being vegan is the idea of non-violence. If you are a non-violent person you will not want to kill any living thing (except plants to sustain your life).

I wouldn't recommend a high protein diet. High protein intake leads to kidney failure, and several studies have been done proving that people in developed nations get too much protein. You only need around 10-15%.

It's pretty hard to say that you care about the earth while eating meat...not matter how it was raised or killed.

It sounds like you need to invest in a few vegan cookbooks!

I have made many meals that nobody knew were vegan.

As far as the "substitutes" go, I don't use them very often because whole foods are more nutritious and cheaper.

I agree with the above poster. I would eat as little meat as possible, and raise my own animals to make sure they were treated well. I believe humans are ultimately worth more than animals, but that doesn't mean we should treat animals poorly.

Lack of understanding does not equate to justification for eating plant matter. Until we can say with 100% certainty that plants cannot feel pain (i.e: never) vegans cannot justifiably take the moral high ground. Even if plants can't feel pain, like the poster above me said, they sure as heck don't...
