Re: Becoming Vegan

yeah... I'm not vegan yet. As far as food changes go, I've set a date and am going to switch that immediately. Other things like makeup, clothing, etc. will be changed when I run out of the other stuff and have more money to buy better stuff... This is a long shot, but my wife found a Target that s...

Re: I am vegan because I am Christian.

You bet! My wife and I have been far down this path (through many different scriptures that people try to point out that say it's "ok" to eat meat). Basically, we believe that the Bible does not condemn eating meat, but that we were created to be vegan. And God certainly would condemn what...

Re: Is it ethical to keep a pet?

I think the problem is domestication. Dogs are generally so domesticated at this point, to not take care of them means they would die in the wild...although we all know stray dogs end up in a kennel and usually end up being killed if not adopted. What I believe is unethical is buying animals from a ...

Re: Becoming Vegan

For me and my wife, we went "cold tofurky." And looking back, it was a great idea. Of course, we had to be quick about researching proper diet so that we did not hurt ourselves. But my wife switched primarily for the sake of the animals, and I switched primarily for health reasons (now we ...

New columnist for vegetarian restaurants

Hey everyone, My wife (Melissa Wilson) just became a columnist for the Examiner. Her focus is on vegetarian restaurants in Charlotte, NC. While the topic is for Charlotte, she will be offering lots of great suggestions for how people can be vegetarian or vegan in a place where such a diet is less co...

Re: Sugar? What's Your Take On It?

Our goal is to have an impact without getting so bogged down with small details. So we may try to buy sugar that has not be refined with bone char, but we won't worry about ingredients in products. My wife is getting ready to dive into Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM) classes, so we may end ...

Re: Monoglycerides??

Also known as trans fats (very unhealthy), monoglycerides are oils or fats processed at high tempuratures with hydrogen. It's a process that can be done with animal fat or vegetable oil.

That's how I understand it...but anyone can chime in if I have mispoken.

Re: Want to see the #1 hypocrite on the internet?

By the way, to get back on topic a little, I don't see this site as being a big hypocrite...in fact, I see Marilyn as being a person who is heading in the right direction, and with a little more knowledge, maybe she would begin to change her position more. My wife went vegan for the animals and has ...

Re:

Look, it doesn't matter if you personally don't eat meat. That doesn't do anything for the environment because they're still MAKING the meat! You're just not CONSUMING it. I agree in the grand scheme of things that choosing to be vega-whatever that your environmental impact is at best, trivial. How...

I like this forum and I will stay here if you wont tell me go away because I am not vegan. My wife and I are vegan, but IMHO, being vegetarian is a HUGE benefit to animals and the environment. So you are more than welcome here, and I think you will find everyone will welcome you and treat you with ...

Re: New here...hi!

I understand about family not being accepting. My family still doesn't accept my decision, even after a year and a half, although they have come around in small areas at times. My wife and I have been eating healthy food and making sure we get what we need for the most part, but I have still be call...

Re: How did you find this forum?

Via Google - searched "vegan forum". I first tried http://www.veganforum.com (which came up first) but the moderator there was condescending. Granted, I should have read the forum rules, but I have found common sense is usually all that is needed. So it's not entirely their fault. However,...

Ishmael sounds interesting from a philosophical point of view. I read the summary from the wiki page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ishmael_(novel) . I emailed with a professor at Columbia University who told me about research done at Cornell where the students concluded that if everyone worldwi...

Happy St. Patty's day! Keep it up...if you need some motivation outside of health, we can provide you all kinds of animal rights links, but surely you have already seen them. Ok, I know...not ANOTHER restaurant listing, right? I have created a simple application to house a listing of restaurants. There are kinks to work out, but here are the details. Re: New website: www.WhyCulturedMeat.org

While the idea is not completely off, here is my take. First of all, we don't need animal flesh to live, and we are far better off without it. So why develop an industry to promote something that is already destroying our health (to be honest, I did not read in depth enough to know if the site addre...

Re: Fishy Problem

While there are vegan alternatives to a lot of the food for our companion animals, they can be hard to find and don't always fulfill the appetite. What I mean is this...of our two dogs, one will eat just about any food we give her, but the other is pretty picky. We have yet to find a vegetarian/vega...

It's not only safe...it is better for your health. But yes, you do need to make sure you are getting B12 and a few other vitamins and minerals. As it turns out, if you add nutritional yeast and sea vegetables to your vegan diet, then chances are you will be pretty well covered for everything. Restau...

My wife and I also did not prefer Nayonaise. We both agree that Vegannaise is the most similar to non-vegan mayonnaise of the ones we have tried...in fact, from what we can remember, there doesn't seem to be any difference in taste.

Ok, so we all know that becoming vegan is one of the biggest impacts we can have on the environment, regarding everything from transportation to waste to balances in nature (and on and on and on). Here's the thing...population growth keeps moving up at a rapid pace. While we may not be economists or...

Why NOT to be vegan!

Hi everyone, Did the title throw you off? My wife and I have been vegan for over a year and a half, and we absolutely love it! She actually works for PETA, and I am a systems analyst. We are not the stereotypical vegans...in fact, we learned there is no such thing as a stereotypical vegan. However, ...
