Emblic (Phyllanthus emblica)

Small, yellow, berry-like fruit with a very acidic flavor. The emblic is extremely popular in parts of Asia.

Description: Large tree to 60+ft. The small leaves are borne on branches in a manner similar to a mimosa. Emblic’s are sensitive to day length and flower and fruit when days are long.

Hardiness: The emblic is subtropical and will withstand frosts as well as hot temperatures.

Propagation: By seeds.

Uses: Fruits are often eaten raw, sprinkled with sugar. They are also baked into desserts, and used in preparing beverages.

Native Range: Native range extends from Pakistan through southern China. Emblic is also grown commercially in much of southeast Asia.
